Henry VII - before becoming king known as "Henry Tudor" (28 January 1457 – 21 April 1509) was the King of England and Lord of Ireland from his seizing the crown on August 22, 1485 until his death on April 21, 1509. He was the first monarch of the Tudor dynasty. Father to many children including King Henry VIII. He married Elizabeth of York uniting the two powerful houses together.
Henry was successful in restoring the power and stability of the English monarchy after the Wars of the Roses. He founded a long-lasting dynasty (The Tudor Dynasty) and was succeeded by his son, King Henry VIII, after a reign of 24 years.
Although Henry VII can be credited with the restoration of political stability in England, and a number of administrative, economic and diplomatic initiatives, the latter part of his reign was charachterized as being financially unstable and corrupt.
