Marionettes and String Puppets Collector's Reference Guide by Daniel E Hodges is a beautifully illustrated volume, that provides an informative, entertaining, colourful and nostalgia look at the most popular marionettes ever produced for the consumer market.

The book covers a wide range of manufactures in its 168 pages.

Pages 66 to 100 are full of information on Pelham Puppets and a quick count gives well over 100 full colour pictures.

Many of the pictures show the great range of puppets and marionettes that  manufacturers produced, and others show how the puppets were made, such as this excellent close-up shot of the metal knee joints,

and another of the toggle feet used by the Pelham company. 

The quoted values in the book, are based on the prices of puppets sold, purchased and advertised over the 5 years before publication.

Collecting Pelham Puppets: An Illustrated Guide was the first and ground breaking book about Pelham Puppets by David Leech.

David has had a life long interest in puppets and worked alongside Bob Pelham in the factory where his main occupation was building Animated Units which were delivered all over the country.

First published in 1998 yet did not appear until 1999, the first edition was published with several errors. All the first editions were supposed to be destroyed, however they were sold off by the publisher and are often found being sold at antique fairs, and on the internet.

The Second edition had these errors corrected.

A great introductory book and recommended for collectors of all ages.
